The Ship Notice/Manifest Transaction Set (856) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment can be utilized to list the contents of a shipment of goods as well as additional information related to the shipment, such as order information, product description, physical characteristics, type of packaging, markings, carrier information, and configuration of goods within the transportation equipment. The transaction set provides an ordered flexibility to convey information, enabling the sender to describe the contents and configuration of a shipment in varying levels of detail. The sender of this transaction is the organization responsible for detailing and communicating the contents of a shipment, or shipments, to one or more receivers of the transaction set. The receiver of this transaction set can be any organization having an interest in the contents of a shipment or information about the contents of a shipment. 123 EDI has incorporated a high level of technology into its software to allow the easy generation of Advance Ship Notices (ASN) for stand-alone environments. Besides generating ASNs, the software is capable of printing related documents such as pallet and carton compliant labels, VICS bill of lading and includes a subtle link between the packing process and the generation of the shipping related documents 753 and 754.
